PayU is one of India's largest gateways, with cards, UPI, net banking, EMI and pay-later. It takes payments in **INR** only, and refunds can be issued from your admin.

## 1. Get your key and salt

In the PayU dashboard, go to **Payment gateway → API keys** (in test mode first). Copy the **Merchant key** and the **Salt (v1)** that goes with it.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Use the **v1** salt that matches the key. A key from the live account with a salt from the test account — or a v2 salt — fails every payment.

## 2. Add PayU to your store

1. Go to **Payments → Add gateway → PayU**. Its settings open.
2. Set **Environment** to **Test / sandbox**.
3. Paste the **Merchant key** and **Merchant salt (v1)** and select **Save changes**.

PayU sends the customer back to your store's return address after payment, so no webhook needs to be set up.

## 3. Test, then go live

Set **Switch it on** to **Admins only** and place a test order as an admin. Then switch **Environment** to **Live**, paste the live key and salt, and set **Switch it on** to **Live**. See [Test before going live](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/ecommerce/payments/test-before-going-live).
