PhonePe's payment gateway is UPI-first, with cards and net banking too — a familiar checkout for most Indian shoppers. It takes payments in **INR** only, and refunds can be issued from your admin.

## What you need

A **PhonePe Business** account with the payment gateway enabled. PhonePe gives you sandbox (test) credentials first and production credentials after it has approved your business and website.

## 1. Get your credentials

In the PhonePe Business dashboard, go to **Developer settings → API keys**. Note:

- **Client ID**
- **Client secret**
- **Client version** — usually **1**; the sandbox also uses 1.

## 2. Add PhonePe to your store

1. Go to **Payments → Add gateway → PhonePe**. Its settings open.
2. Set **Environment** to **Test / sandbox** while you use sandbox credentials.
3. Fill in **Client ID**, **Client secret** and **Client version**.
4. Select **Save changes**.

## 3. Add the webhook

1. On the PhonePe method, **Copy** the **Webhook / callback URL** from *URLs for PhonePe's dashboard*.
2. In the PhonePe dashboard, add a webhook with that URL. PhonePe asks you to **choose a username and password** for it.
3. Back in your admin, enter the same **Webhook username** and **Webhook password**, and **Save changes**.

The webhook lets PhonePe confirm a payment even when the customer does not come back to your store after paying.

## 4. Test, then go live

1. Set **Switch it on** to **Admins only** and place a test order while signed in as an admin. See [Test before going live](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/ecommerce/payments/test-before-going-live).
2. When PhonePe gives you production credentials, set **Environment** to **Live**, replace the credentials, update the webhook in the production dashboard, and set **Switch it on** to **Live**.

> [!NOTE]
> PhonePe only accepts rupees. If you sell in other currencies, the method is offered only when the cart is in INR — add a second gateway such as Stripe or PayPal for other currencies.
