# Shipping charges by weight

> Charge for delivery by the weight of the cart with weight slabs — set them up, cover every weight, and switch shipping charges on or off.

Product: NijeesWeb online store builder · Source: https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/ecommerce/shipping-tax/shipping-rates · Updated 2026-10-06

Your store can work out the delivery charge in one of two ways:

- **Your own weight slabs** — a fixed charge for each weight range, which you set here. Simple and predictable.
- **Shiprocket** — live courier rates for each delivery address. See [Shiprocket setup](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/ecommerce/shipping-tax/shiprocket-setup).

You choose in **Settings → Shipping**:

- **Shipping: Charge for delivery** — on to charge for delivery at all. Off means delivery is always free.
- **Shipping Values** — **My own weight slabs**, or (switched off) **Quoted by Shiprocket**.

## How weight slabs work

1. The store adds up the **weight of everything in the cart**: each variant's *Weight (grams)* × quantity. A variant with no weight counts as the default parcel weight (0.5 kg unless changed on the Shiprocket screen).
2. It finds the **slab** whose range contains that total.
3. That slab's **charge** is the delivery charge.

The starter store's slabs:

| From weight | To weight | Charge |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 g | 500 g | ₹70 |
| 501 g | 1,000 g | ₹110 |
| 1,001 g | 1,500 g | ₹150 |

> [!WARNING]
> **Cover every weight.** A cart that falls outside every slab — heavier than your last slab, or in a gap between two — is charged **nothing** for delivery. Add a last slab that runs to a weight no order will reach, such as 1,501 g to 100,000 g.

## Add a slab

1. Go to **Configuration → Shipping** and select **Add New**.
2. Enter **From Weight** and **To Weight** in **grams**, and the **Charge** in your default currency. If you sell in other currencies, each one has its own charge box — leave it blank to convert.
3. Leave **Status** on **Active** and select **Submit**.

Make each slab start one gram after the last one ended: 1–500, 501–1000, 1001–1500.

## Weights matter

The slab is only as right as your product weights. Enter the **packed** weight of every variant on the product form — box and packaging included.

## Free shipping

Free-shipping rules apply on top of your slabs: when they are met, delivery is free. See [Free shipping](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/ecommerce/shipping-tax/free-shipping).

## Common questions

### Can I charge a flat fee for every order?
Yes: make one slab from 1 g to a very large weight, with your flat charge.

### Can I charge different amounts for different cities?
Not with weight slabs. Use Shiprocket, which prices each delivery by distance, or free shipping on chosen pincodes.
