**Google Search Console** is Google's free tool for website owners. It tells Google your site exists, shows which searches bring visitors, and warns you about problems. Setting it up takes about ten minutes.

## 1. Add your domain

1. Go to [search.google.com/search-console](https://search.google.com/search-console) and sign in with a Google account.
2. Choose **Add property**, pick **Domain**, type your domain (`yourbusiness.in` — no `https://`, no `www`) and continue.
3. Google shows a **TXT record** starting with `google-site-verification=`. Copy it.

## 2. Verify with a DNS record (works on every plan)

1. At your domain registrar — where you added the A records when you [connected your domain](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/website/getting-started/connect-your-domain) — open the DNS settings.
2. Add a record of type **TXT**, name `@`, and paste the value from Google.
3. Save, go back to Search Console and select **Verify**. If it fails, wait an hour and try again — DNS takes time.

> [!TIP]
> You can also verify with a meta tag instead: choose **HTML tag** in Search Console and paste the `<meta …>` it gives you into **Custom Meta Tags** in your home page's [Page SEO](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/website/building-pages/page-seo). The DNS method is still better — it covers every address on your domain.

## 3. Submit your sitemap

1. In Search Console, open **Sitemaps**.
2. Enter `sitemap.xml` and select **Submit**.

Your sitemap lists every page and blog post and is updated automatically as you publish, so you only do this once.

## 4. Ask Google to look at important pages

Paste a page's address into the search bar at the top of Search Console (**URL inspection**), then select **Request indexing**. Do this for your home page and main service pages after launch, and after big changes.

## What to check each month

- **Performance** — which searches show your site, and how often people click.
- **Pages** — which pages are indexed, and why any are not.
- **Experience** — Core Web Vitals and mobile usability.

If your site is not appearing on Google after a few weeks, see [Not showing on Google](https://www.nijeesweb.com/docs/website/troubleshooting/not-showing-on-google).
