Keep your website fast

What NijeesWeb does to make pages fast, how to measure your site, and the habits that keep it fast on phones.

Speed matters: Google found that 53% of mobile visits are abandoned if a page takes longer than three seconds to load (The need for mobile speed, 2016). Fast pages also rank better.

What NijeesWeb does for you#

  • Pages are built on the server and served from a cache, rebuilt the moment you change something.
  • Images become WebP when you upload them, and load lazily as visitors scroll.
  • Only the font families your site uses are loaded.
  • Scripts that are not needed — animation libraries, icon fonts — are left out of pages that don't use them.
  • Your site is hosted in Mumbai, close to visitors across India, over HTTPS.

Measure your site#

Use Google's free PageSpeed Insights: enter your address and look at the Mobile score and its Core Web Vitals. Test your home page and your heaviest pages (galleries, video).

The habits that matter most#

  1. Resize photos before uploading. The largest cause of slow pages. 1920 px wide for full-width pictures, 1000 px for column images. See Media library.
  2. Keep the first screen light. The picture at the top of a page should be one well-compressed image — not a slider of five, and not a video on phones.
  3. Prefer YouTube for long videos over uploaded files.
  4. Use one or two fonts. Each extra family adds a download.
  5. Animate a few things, not everything.
  6. Be careful with third-party code — chat widgets, pixels and embeds each add weight. Remove the ones you no longer use.
