Cookie consent bar

Ask visitors before setting analytics cookies, with your own wording, buttons and policy link.

Updated 1 min read Markdown

If your website uses Google Analytics or other tracking, it is good practice — and in many countries a legal requirement — to ask visitors first. The cookie consent bar does exactly that.

Turn it on#

  1. Open Settings › General Settings › Maps, analytics & cookies.
  2. Switch on Cookie consent — Ask visitors before setting analytics cookies.
  3. Optionally change the wording — leave any of these blank to use the default English wording:
    • Banner Title — We use cookies
    • Banner Message
    • Accept Button — Accept all
    • Reject Button — Necessary only
  4. Cookie Policy Link and its Link Text — a page on your site (/cookie-policy) or a full https:// address.
  5. Save.

What it does#

While this is on, your Google Analytics snippet is not loaded at all until the visitor chooses "Accept all" — so no tracking cookie is set before they agree. Sign-in and security cookies are always allowed: the site cannot work without them, and they need no consent.

Let visitors change their mind#

Add a link to #cookie-settings anywhere — in your footer, for example, with the text Cookie settings. Clicking it reopens the banner.
