Get ready for your first order
Everything to replace, set and test before you tell people about your store — business details, pincodes, shipping, GST, payments, invoices and a test order.
A new store opens with sample content so you can see how everything fits together. Work through this list before you share your store's address. Each step links to the full guide.
1. Your business details#
Settings → Business. The starter store says Your Company, name@email.com and a dummy phone number. Replace them with your company name, email, mobile number and address — they appear on your store and in emails.
Then fill in Email To Receive Updates: contact-form enquiries are sent there. See General settings.
2. Logo and favicon#
Settings → Branding. Upload your logo and the small icon shown in browser tabs. See General settings.
3. Your products#
Products. Delete the sample products (or edit them into your own), then add your products. Give every variant a weight in grams — shipping is charged by weight.
Replace the sample Men and Women categories with yours under Products → Categories.
4. GST rates#
Configuration → Taxes holds the rates you can pick on a product (the starter list has 0%, 5%, 9% and 18%). Set the right rate and HSN code on every product — see GST and taxes.
5. Where you deliver — do not skip this#
See Delivery pincodes.
6. What delivery costs#
Configuration → Shipping holds weight slabs. The starter slabs charge ₹70 up to 500 g, ₹110 up to 1 kg and ₹150 up to 1.5 kg. Make sure your slabs cover your heaviest possible order: a cart heavier than every slab is charged nothing for delivery. Or connect Shiprocket for live courier rates.
7. Payment methods#
Payments. A new store has no payment methods, so nobody can pay yet. Add Cash on Delivery, a bank transfer option, or an online gateway such as Razorpay or PhonePe, and switch it on — see How payments work.
8. Invoices and labels#
Orders → Invoices & Labels. Add your legal name, GSTIN, PAN and state (which decides CGST + SGST or IGST), your invoice number prefix, and a signature. See Invoices and labels.
9. Returns policy#
Orders → Returns Policy. Decide whether customers may cancel, return or exchange, within how many days, and how refunds are paid. See Returns policy.
10. Your pages#
- Pages → Home — replace the sample banner (70% off — Welcome to My Demo Site) and sections.
- Pages → About — tell your story.
- Add pages for your Privacy policy, Terms, Shipping policy, Returns and refunds and Contact. Payment gateways such as Razorpay and PhonePe ask to see these before they activate your account.
See Pages and the page builder.
11. Sample content elsewhere#
- Layout → Footer Builder — replace the placeholder text.
- Layout → Social Links — point them at your own profiles, or delete them.
- Clients → Testimonials and Accordions / FAQs — replace the samples.
- Configuration → Coupons — the starter coupon
New10gives new customers 10% off. Keep it, change it or switch it off.
12. Place a test order#
Switch your payment method to Admins only, then place an order on your store while signed in as an admin. Check the confirmation, the order in Orders, the invoice, and the shipping charge. See Test before going live. Then switch the method to Live.
13. Tell search engines#
Add a robots.txt and a sitemap.xml to your store, then add your store to Google Search Console and submit the sitemap — see SEO and sharing.
